We have done more to cut back on carbon emissions than any other state and that’s a record I’m proud of.

As we look toward California’s goal to become carbon neutral by 2045 we need to focus on solar, wind, and battery storage facilities. We need a 21st Century Electric Grid that will handle the transition.

We need to keep the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power plant open which produces ZERO carbon emissions. While gas prices are on the rise, we need affordable clean energy we can depend on.

As we move towards more electric vehicles and the needed EV charging stations we must also be prepared and ready to handle the new demand with our energy infrastructure as the electrification of homes and buildings increase. Our energy consumption could double by 2045 and we will have to consider electricity pricing with the possibility of rate reform as we transition our appliances, workplace environments, and again the cost to maintain this new demand. We will have to simplify regulatory reviews and their approvals as we advance to move toward California’s 2045 carbon neutrality goal.

As we lead in carbon reductions we must move with caution and make sure we have the right infrastructure in place to accomplish our smart energy goals.

San Luis Obispo, CA – March 30, 2022. Vicki Nohrden, candidate for Assembly District 30, received a key endorsement from Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, Assembly District 06.  AD 30 is a new, open district following the redistricting process, affording an opportunity for Nohrden’s new, positive strategies to make an impact on California’s current, failing government.  The district includes three counties: San Luis Obispo, Monterey, and Santa Cruz.

Kiley, now running for congress, states “It is really good to know even though this will be my last year in the Assembly we have a real fighter you’re going to be sending up there in Vicki Nohrden.”

“I’m running to stand up for families, for education choice and parents’ rights, for less government control of businesses, and for taxpayers who feel bullied by Sacramento,” says Nohrden.  Her common-sense platform begins with “No labels … let’s take the labels out of politics”

Other high-level endorsements include Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, Senator Shannon Grove, Supervisor San Luis Obispo County Debbie Arnold, Mayor Pismo Beach Ed Waage, and San Luis Obispo County Assessor Tom Bordonaro Jr.

Vicki Nohrden has spent 25 years as a family advocate and community leader. Her public service has included classrooms, front rooms, boardrooms, and courtrooms throughout our region.

Her business career began in real estate and later her passion for restoring families led her to work as a youth director at the Presbyterian Church in Carmel impacting youth on school campuses. Her public service continued as a CASA — a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children — and later a family liaison in the juvenile justice system. Vicki continued her advocacy work with a focus on mental health. She also served as a member of a Civil Grand Jury overseeing claims of government corruption, accountability, and management.

Vicki is running for Assembly District 30 to be a voice for the people.

Vicki Nohrden, a parent and grandparent, criticized the board for preaching about compassion, kindness, and respect while disregarding parental rights.

“Respect is so important,” Nohrden said. “What I think is lacking is we are not respecting the parents when parents don’t have a voice and a place of authority in their children’s world and the school seeks to undermine that authority.”

WATSONVILLE — A seven-year-long project has come to fruition for Teen Challenge Monterey Bay (TCMB) and the Pajaro Rescue Mission with the opening of the Grace Harbor Women’s Center in Watsonville.

The new center and shelter at 55 Brennan St. provide 50 beds for women with issues such as drug and alcohol addiction, who are a part of the faith-based Teen Challenge residential program. Another 42 beds are available on a short-term basis for homeless and at-risk women, including those with children.

The 20,000-square-foot center will also include the Rustic Table Restaurant, the Lighthouse Treasures Shoppe and a clinic run by the Pregnancy Resources Center of Santa Cruz County.

The center celebrated its Grand Opening on Sept. 9, and they will hold another ribbon-cutting ceremony for the restaurant and store on Sept. 23.

“This was a huge project,” said Mike Borden, executive director of TCMB. “When we secured this building, we had no idea the magnitude of what we were getting ourselves into. This building is more than half an acre. So much stuff needed to be done.”
